Trigger Point Dry Needling has become a popular treatment option for patients with myofascial (trigger point) pain.
- Trigger points are tight taut bands within the muscle fibre that limit blood flow, these tight bands are commonly referred to as ‘muscle knots’.
- It is thought that the lack of blood flow leads to an inability to remove the toxins and byproducts used in muscle contractions. The prolonged presence of these waste products can chemically irritate the muscle fibre and produce pain (a condition known as myofascial pain).
- Dry needling provides a specific and localised treatment of tender or painful muscle fibres by increasing blood flow and correcting muscle dysfunction.
- All of our therapists have additional training in trigger point dry needling and routinely examine the presence of trigger points as part of the assessment process.
